    2. Safe & Stress-Free School Runs

Sherbet Electric Taxis are here to ease the stress of going back to school and other places of education

Remember pre-March 2020 when the school runs not only brought London’s roads to a standstill, it costs UK families £1.66 billion a year. According to the motor insurer Egg, half a million parents in the capital drive their children to school between 7.30 am and 8.45 am and back from 3 pm to 4.15 pm. In addition to the time we use to spend in our cars because of traffic, there are costs attached to the school run. Fuel accounted for 80 percent of school-run costs with £3,000 spent on petrol over a child’s school career. Add to this the costs of parking, insurance, damaged vehicles, repairs, and maintenance of vehicles, the school run soon becomes an expensive part of family life. We also have the environmental cost of the school run with millions of tonnes of CO2 and other harmful gases pouring out of our exhausts and into our natural environment.

In the last 12 months, we have endured and lived through the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools have been closed and opened at various different points but we now have the roadmap out of lockdown as we start to look to the future and a new normal. The environmental benefits on our cities have been reported widely in the media with cleaner air measurements and the benefit this has on all of us.  Are we now going to go back to spending time, money and polluting our air with the return to school?

Getting children back into the classroom for face-to-face education and social development is a priority for all of us. Schools are returning on the 8th of March 2021. As parents, we are naturally worried about ensuring we are protecting our children and keeping them as safe as possible from COVID-19. We have to balance the school run with working from home for a while longer. The natural instinct is to get behind the wheel and drive our children to school safely, but do you have time? Have you enjoyed the benefits of cleaner air? Have you enjoyed the savings from using your car less?

Have you thought about the alternative?

Sherbet Electric Taxis offer a safe, clean, and green transport solution to parents to ensure their children get to school safe and secure.

Our Taxis are the latest modern electric taxis in London so we can ensure your child travels in a purpose-built passenger compartment with a purpose-built partition that can offer 2m social distancing from the driver. The passenger compartment has a separate climate control system from the driver and the vehicle is cleaned after every trip to ensure the highest safety precautions are taken and offered. In addition, our vehicles are Electric which means we positively contribute to our air quality. We also have free WiFi so your children can connect their phones & tablets whilst we transport them to school.

Sherbet have the world’s best taxi drivers. Not only have they spent on average 3 years learning every street and point of interest in London, but they have gone through an exceptionally tough vetting process with TFL that includes a CRB check so you have the confidence that our taxi drivers are trusted.

Sherbet takes this a step further by going through a rigorous engagement process with licensed Taxi Drivers and those drivers who are successful enjoy Sherbet’s Onboarding training that focuses on customer service, vehicles, and also NHS UK COVID-19 effective cleaning to further enhance safety.

We offer competitive, cost-effective fixed prices on all trips and we can enhance the service by offering a dedicated driver for getting your children to and from school safely. Our new booking App allows you to track the progress of your trips so you can see when your children have arrived at school and when they are on their way home to you.  You can book, track, amend and cancel your trips on our App helping give you total control.

    3. The Future of Urban Mobility

Comments Off on The Future of Urban Mobility

      The Future of Urban Mobility

With the UK Prime Minister’s latest update on the use of public transport, it is inevitable that our post-Covid-19 future will change the way we live, work, transport, and travel in the UK. People who can’t work from home are still commuting to work with their traditional transport but are impacted by the social distancing rules.

      According to the Evening Standard:

      • 40% Are less likely to use the train or Tube to commute after restrictions
      • 34% Agree that only commuters should use public transport during rush hour
      • 46% Agree the Government should introduce car-free streets in city centres to ensure commuting is possible in a safe way post-Covid

The need for keeping a physical distance from others requires that the space in ways of transport must be shared in new ways. There are ways to commute safely, maintaining a 2-meter distance from others, but what is the safest option?

With features like a purpose-built private passenger compartment, glass partition, separately controlled air conditioning, wipe-clean interior, card touch payment, 100% wheelchair accessible and driven by knowledgeable & CRB checked trained drivers – Electric Taxis are the safest form of travel.

They are purpose-built and designed to be frequently cleaned. Electric taxis are also a giant leap forward in clean transportation. They provide a cleaner, more comfortable, and more secure environment for all.

      The Low-emission Future

Traffic congestion is set to increase and with insufficient capacity, rising transport demand, and harder to find parking spaces we are experiencing drive in demand for low emission vehicles. In recent years, electric taxis have enjoyed a surge of success in cities around the world, with England (London), Norway (Oslo), and Australia (Sydney) leading the way. Although these cities have many things in common, one key factor is driving this trend: climate change. In the last decade alone, the number of private hire vehicles (PHVs) has increased by 40 percent in London and with them, the carbon emission.

In the wake of ever-increasing reliance on cars and other fossil fuel burning devices, a lot of effort has been put into finding an alternative form of transportation that is safe, energy-efficient, and low emission. Electric taxis are the answer to this need. Modern-day diesel cars emit significantly more harmful nitrogen oxides that can cause respiratory conditions than new, low emission electric taxis. According to Which.co.uk the LEVC has the least output of harmful emissions in comparison to Prius, Tesla, Nissan Leaf, Lexus Hybrid models.

The London Taxi is enjoying a Renaissance. From the traditional ride-hailing service to the latest smartphones and apps – a lot has changed in one hundred years. The old black cab has surged back into life in its new form, revolutionised, while new technology continues to create high-tech electric vehicles.

Everyone is looking forward to moving around more freely again, especially those who are separated from their families. Most ways of travel will, at some point, increase in demand. However, we should choose low and zero-carbon travel alternatives to sustain the unexpected side-effect of the crisis – reduction of air pollution in congested cities.

By choosing Sherbet electric taxis you’re reducing congestion, improving local air quality & helping contribute to a more sustainable future. Driving away from fossil fuels an electric taxi will have a significant impact on a healthier, greener future.

    4. Taxi Drivers – Is it time to return to work?

Comments Off on Taxi Drivers – Is it time to return to work?

Over the last few weeks I have spoken to many drivers and read hundreds of social media posts all asking the same question ‘is there any work out there, is it worth me coming back?’

Since mid-March, we have seen work levels hit the floor, with Heathrow at a standstill and nobody on the streets, most drivers have decided to follow the governments’ advice and stay at home. Some drivers decided to carry and continued to work, approx. 20% of our fleet stayed on the road. These drivers did not find it easy and have relied more on app and account work from the likes of Sherbet Ride, Com Cab & Gett.

So, the question is it time to return? We have seen more of our fleet return over the last few weeks. DrivSherbet London Ride Drive Taxi Driver Charging Point Electric Taxi Cab Chargingers seem keen to get back after possibly 8-10 weeks off. I think we all understand work levels will be low but we are seeing small glimmers of hope. I have seen credit card suppliers publishing transaction figures which are low but seem to be on the increase. Listening to the news the government has plans to open more businesses, we will see shops opening soon and hopefully bars and pubs. The weather is on our side so more people will be tempted to come out after weeks indoors. The trains and tubes are starting to look busier and I believe we will see more of our core customers (office workers) returning to the London offices over the coming weeks.

Customers will also think twice about using private hire, social distancing is still the government’s keywords, over the last few weeks our sales team at Sherbet Ride have seen an increased number of enquiries from big corporations who have made the decision to move away from private hire, and are no longer prepared to move staff around in the confined space of a car.

I think we would all agree to need to come back at some point, yes it will be hard to start with but slowly the work levels will increase. Many rental companies are also prepared to help. We have our own return to work rental plans with an agreed period of discounted rent.

It will always be hard to come back after such a long period off, but we all have to come back at some point. Taxis should be seen on the streets of London. Customers need to know we are back and ready to get London moving again.

      Take care and stay safe

    5. How Our Travel Footprint Affects The Environment in 2020

Comments Off on How Our Travel Footprint Affects The Environment in 2020

We are living in an age where we face a global climate crisis and often hear that travel is one of the worst ways individuals can leave an impact on the planet earth. It is crucial to know and understand why maximising sustainability during your travel and whilst at your destination is necessary.

In 2018, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that we need to take serious action by 2030 or it may be too late to reverse the damage. As Britain’s capital tops UK carbon footprint list, we have a few suggestions on how Londoners and tourists can reduce harmful CO2 emissions while traveling.

      Plane

According to the BBC, flights produce greenhouse gases – mainly carbon dioxide (CO2) – from burning fuel. These contribute to global warming when released into the atmosphere. For example, An economy-class return flight from London to New York emits an estimated 0.67 tonnes of CO2 per passenger, according to the calculator from the UN’s civil aviation body, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It is worth mentioning that aviation contributes about 2% of the world’s global carbon emissions, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It also predicts that passenger numbers will double to approx. 8.2 billion in 2037 and that the total number of emissions is set to rise.

      Train

Compearing to flying, train journies are a lot more environmentally friendly. For example, according to EcoPassenger, a journey from London to Madrid would emit 43kg (95lb) of CO2 per passenger by train, but 118kg by plane (or 265kg if the non-CO2 emissions are included). However, the number of emissions generated by using trains and planes varies, depending on several factors, such as if the train is electric, and what way the electricity they use is generated. With regards to diesel trains – carbon emissions can be twice those of electric ones. For example, some diesel trains can emit more than 90g of C02 per passenger per kilometer, compared with about 45g for an electric Intercity 225, figures from the UK Rail Safety and Standards board show.

      Car

Driving can be better than flying and taking a train – if the car is electric. The popularity of Electric vehicles (EV) is increasing very strongly. According to CarbonFootprint.com In the UK electric vehicles, were ca.14% of the new market in Dec 2019 and by 2035 it’s forecast that all new car sales in Europe will be electric vehicles. London is one of 20 global cities leading on electric vehicles, including taxis. For example, an electric taxi emits 29 g/km CO2 in comparison to a diesel one with 222 g/km emissions of the CO2.

Here are comparisons of EV cars:

About 3,550 electric cabs manufactured by the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) have been licensed to operate in London since its introduction in January 2018. The LEVC electric taxi model runs on a battery for about 80 miles, with an engine range extender for use outside central London capable of up to 400 miles. Electric cabs have many advantages and features that both drivers and passengers can benefit from. According to the LEVC study, driving an electric taxi reduces stress levels, is more comfortable and cost-effective. Passengers love electric taxis not only for their low emission capabilities but also for their advanced technology onboard. They are equipped with USB charging points as well as a full-size power socket which can be used to charge your laptop or smartphone for example. On top of that, you’re able to gain access to free 4G Wifi, control air conditioning with climate control, and switch on/off the speaker to communicate with your driver. Electric taxis are also wheelchair accessible with additional accessibility features. Thanks to innovative companies like Sherbet Ride it is very easy to move eco consciously around London whilst visiting, or on day to day basis, when you don’t have a car. You can pre-book or book on-demand your electric taxi via Sherbet Ride app or online at www.sherbetride.com/web-booker.

To summarise, every one of us has to remember that the sustainable choices we make every day have a real impact on the environment around us. Air pollution is a major global issue that is causing premature deaths and illnesses throughout the world. The majority of air pollution in developed countries such as London is caused by traffic which prominent due to the congestion. Air pollution associated with conventional vehicles includes Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Particulate Matter (PM10), and Carbon Monoxide (CO) which are emitted from exhausts due to the burning of fuel. Diesel emits four times the amount of NOx and 22 times the amount of PM10 that the average petrol vehicle. Choose your way of travel wisely and offset your carbon footprint.
